Checking out CL before I hit the sack and I see an $18,000 S2000. I am not really looking for anything but was drawn in by the intro picture of this car in a temporary garage. Based on that intro pic I thought some person had a secret stash in East Orange. However once I clicked through the images I quickly learned that this is a hot piece of garbage with no title.

It looks like the upper shock mount was installed using grade 2 (not for any structural use) hardware. The rotors are toast and rusted. This is all around where S2000's go to die.

Actual text from the listing

“Race car ready/ project car

This car was use for racing under SCCA rules/autocross

This car has some extra parts such as transmission, slick tires, starter, connectors, headlight units, that I was going to install but I couldn’t and some extra interior parts.

NOW BECAUSE IS A RACE CAR AND IT’S NOT STREET LEGAL, I DO NOT HAVE THE TITLE.”

Those particular wheels are probably used on more race cars than any other wheel in existence at the moment. They've got quite The pedigree. Besides that.... Lol. S2k’s haven’t climbed THAT high...

Classic spouse told them to sell it and they listed it for three times what’s its worth hoping no one will buy it.

That price is at least double what it’s worth. Assuming the engine andtrans are in good condition.

TIL that the SCCA requires you to lose the title before they allow you to compete

Well, there are racecars and there is autocrossing. Th at’s not a racecar... That said, and in no way vouching for that thing, in the world of actual racecars the no title thing is not uncommon. The sanctioning bodies logbook (issued only by a national scrutineer with its number stamped to the roll cage in SCCA club or pro racing ) is the only record of the car in the racecar world that matters . Sometimes a racecar may come with a title as relic from its former life when it could be lawfully driven on the street, but I know of no racer that ever bother to transfer it into their name for any reason.
